Kim Sears and Jelena Ristic Lead Celeb Brigade at SW 19

The summer's Wimbledon tennis championships are often as much about the world's top players competing for one of the most prestigious titles in the sport as it is about courtside fashion and celeb spotting at SW19.

The celebrity trend has been somewhat muted this year though, with the royal family, in particular, otherwise engaged. Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, is due to give birth to her first child this month, at St Mary's Hospital. Prince William is, of course, by her side.

Kate's parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, have been spotted in the Royal Box, as has the Duchess' sister, Pippa Middleton. The Duchess of Cornwall was also present, although there was a bit of a controversial moment, involving former professionals John McEnroe, Tim Henman and Virginia Wade.

Among the celebrities present was opera singer Katherine Jenkins, in a beautiful cream-coloured outfit. The 33-year-old was joined by ballerina Darcey Bussell. Hollywood actress and Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall was also spotted... in the Royal Box no less.

Meanwhile, the WAGS were out in force as well, with Andy Murray's girlfriend, Kim Sears, grabbing her share of attention during the British No 1's matches. Sears is not a tennis professional but knows a thing or two about the sport; her father is Nigel Sears, the former coach of Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova.

Murray and Sears met at the US Open in 2005 and have been dating ever since, though they did split up for a short time in 2009.

Eight-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal didn't have his girlfriend, Maria Francisca Perelló, courtside this year. Perhaps it was as well; the Spaniard suffered a humiliating first round exit, for the second straight year, this time to Belgian Steve Darcis, losing 6(4)-7, 6(8)-7(10), 4-6.

Nadal and Perelló have been together for seven years now. They met in Manacor, on the island of Mallorca, where they both grew up.

And unfortunately, Roger and Mirka Federer fared no better. The seven-time Wimbledon champion slumped to a second round defeat to Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky, whose wife, Anfisa Bulgakova, incidentally was also in attendance.

Jelena Ristic is a far happier girlfriend though. The Serbian is World No 1 Novak Djokovic's better half and has been cheering her man all the way through the semi final, where he faces the eighth seed, Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina.
