Despite the thick coatings of make-up, the actor's chin stubble is still visible around his jawline.

But with all the feminine paraphernalia of fake eyelashes and violet eye shadow, he is nearly unrecognisable as he mouths an 'O' shape with his red glossy lips.

According to fashion website NewNowNext, the actor was shot by his close friend Terry Richardson for the glamorous cover.

Previous cover models have included Chloe Sevigny and James Franco for the drag mag, which is now in its sixth issue.

Meanwhile, Jared plays an HIV-positive cross dresser in The Dallas Buyer's Club alongside Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner.

During shooting for the film in November, the actor spent hours on set in high heels and fishnet stockings.

The star, who was clearly suffering for his art, updated his Twitter followers on the painful waxing process he had to undergo for his role.

'Ladies, I feel your pain. What I have learned today: Beauty is pain. Wax on wax off,' he wrote in one post.

The film is slated for release on February 7 next year.
