The Colorado Avalanche on Monday announced the hiring of Adam Foote as defense development consultant and Andre Tourigny as an assistant coach. Colorado also named Craig Billingtonassistant general manager and Mario Duhamel video coach.
The Avalanche named Patrick Roy coach May 28. He, Foote and Joe Sakic, named executive vice president of hockey operations on May 10, were teammates when the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup in 1996 and 2001.
Foote, 41, also helped the Avalanche win nine consecutive division titles from 1995 to 2003. He played more regular-season (967) and playoff games (170) than any defenseman in Avalanche history, and recorded 66 goals, 242 assists and 308 points in 1,154 NHL games with the Quebec Nordiques, Columbus Blue Jackets and Avalanche. Foote won a gold medal with Canada at the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Tourigny served as coach and general manager of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for the past 11 seasons, with a 337-336-20 record in 693 games. Tourigny, 39, was an assistant coach for Canada at the 2010, 2011 and 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Billington, 46, spent the past 10 seasons as vice president of player development/minor league operations for the Avalanche.
Duhamel coached the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the QMJHL for the past four seasons and was an assistant coach with Canada at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship. Duhamel previously served as an assistant coach under Tourigny with Rouyn-Noranda.
